South Dakota: Types of Mold
When mold develops mycotoxins, it becomes what is known as toxic mold. This mold is very dangerous and can even cause death. The two main types of toxic mold are Stachybotrys and Memnoniella.
Stachybotrys is better known as black mold. This form of toxic mold is a contaminant that can be fatal to both people and animals. One strain of stachybotrys can even cause bleeding in the lungs of infants. This type of toxic mold often grows under ceilings and on the backs of walls, which makes it difficult to find. Stachybotrys is also not likely to show up during routine air sampling screens. Because of this, many do not realize toxic mold is growing until serious health problems have developed. Unfortunately, until stachybotrys is discovered, it will continue to release harmful toxins into the air.
Memnoniella is another contaminant that can grow alongside stachybotrys on wet paper, straw, hay, cotton and wood products. Memnoniella develops toxins very similar to stachybotrys and can also be fatal to both humans and animals.
If you bought a home and were not informed of toxic mold growth and have suffered medical conditions because of it, contact a South Dakota mold attorney immediately. He or she can evaluate your claim to determine whether you can pursue a toxic mold lawsuit in South Dakota.
